About Western JETS

The Western Joint Electrical Training Society, commonly known as Western JETS, supports the education, training and professional development of electrical workers throughout British Columbia and Yukon.
Since 1969, Western JETS has worked to strengthen the electrical industry by helping apprentices build successful careers and providing Red Seal electricians with opportunities to expand their skills throughout their working lives.
Our goal is simple: to help electrical workers develop the knowledge, practical skills and leadership abilities needed to perform safe, high-quality work.
Who We Are
Western JETS is a joint training partnership between:
- International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 230
- International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 993
- International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1003
- The Construction Labour Relations Association of BC Electrical Division
Together, our partners support a highly skilled electrical workforce serving Vancouver Island, Northern British Columbia, Yukon and the Kootenays.
By bringing labour and signatory contractors together, Western JETS helps ensure that training responds to the real needs of electrical workers, employers and the construction industry.
What We Do
Western JETS provides access to training and career-development opportunities for members of participating IBEW local unions.
Continuing Education
We offer courses that help electrical workers maintain their qualifications, learn new systems, prepare for changing industry requirements and advance their careers.
Training may include:
- Electrical code and certification updates
- Safety and workplace training
- Technical and equipment-specific courses
- Foreperson, supervisory and leadership development
- Computer, business and management skills
- Apprenticeship and Interprovincial Red Seal exam preparation
Courses are offered online and in communities throughout the regions we serve, based on member and industry demand.
Apprenticeship Support
A strong apprenticeship system is essential to the future of the electrical trade. Western JETS helps apprentices access training, academic support, mentorship and other resources as they work toward Red Seal certification.
Training Requests and Funding Support
Members can request courses that are not currently scheduled. Western JETS may also support approved electrical-industry upgrading offered by other training providers. Prior approval and eligibility requirements apply.
Creating More Pathways Into the Trades
Western JETS works with industry and community partners to make electrical careers more accessible and to help apprentices succeed.
Workplace Alternative Trades Training
The Workplace Alternative Trades Training program, known as WATT, provides a hands-on electrical pre-apprenticeship pathway for people who may face barriers entering the skilled trades.
The program helps qualified participants gain practical experience, become sponsored apprentices and prepare to begin their careers in the electrical industry.
Women in Red Seal Electrical
Women in Red Seal Electrical, known as WIRED, supports women entering and working in the electrical trade.
Through mentorship, career guidance, training opportunities, financial supports and community connections, WIRED helps participants build lasting careers in the industry.

Developing the Next Generation of Leaders
Technical ability is only one part of a successful career. The electrical industry also needs people who can communicate, mentor others, solve problems and lead with integrity.
The annual Western JETS Leadership Award recognizes outstanding electrical apprentices and supports the continued development of future industry leaders.
Who Can Access Western JETS Training?
Western JETS training and member services are primarily available to eligible members in good standing of IBEW Locals 230, 993 and 1003.
