Boom Truck Training - 'A' Ticket Preparation Course
Pre-Requisites – Participants must have successfully completed the following BEFORE registering for this course:
- Obtain a valid ITA Level ‘B’/Provisional Crane Certification – This online training course and exam is offered externally through Fulford.
- Complete Airbrake Training through an ICBC recognized Driver Training School.
- Upon successful completion of the Airbrakes course, make an appointment to write the exam and obtain the Air Brakes Endorsement from the local ICBC Driver Licensing Office within 90 days
- Keep training logs
- Intend to write the ‘A’ Ticket Exam
IMPORTANT NOTE: Members will be reimbursed by WJETS for the cost of the pre-requisite courses and exams upon successful completion. Prior approval from your Training Coordinator is required.
Space is limited to 5 participants. Those without intention of obtaining an ‘A’ Ticket or those who are unable to provide proof of the required pre-requisites will be removed from the course.
This 3-Day Boom Truck/’A’ Ticket Crane Operator Exam Prep Course Covers the following:
- Pre-trip / load charts/paper work/ hand signals /identify parts of truck and what to look for on the pre-trip
- Driving on different sites /LOA for substations /grounding truck and why in substations
- Set up truck, levelling truck and why. different ways for picking loads/ placing loads on ground or truck
- Operating methods( short or long stick differences and why and when to use them)
- Operator responsibility and working with crews (on ground and in the air) Where spotters and signal person and using multiple signal people
- Practice moving boom using controls. How to use multiple controls at the same time
- Different ways of moving loads with different controls.
- Packing up truck to make it safe to move with or without a load
- General safety on and around the lifting area
- Prepping for “A” level test:
- Hand signals
- Load chart
- Setup truck
- Moving boom and ball smoothly to the different targets with and with out load for test
