Arc Flash and High Voltage Safety courses available in Prince George and Terrace at COEs

Dear Brothers and Sisters,   We have already scheduled an Arc Flash and a High Voltage Safety course in in Kamloops on July 28th and 29th, 2018. The instructor is also available to come to deliver the courses to members at the Excellence Centers in Prince George and Terrace.  The dates he would be available to do the courses are Terrace July 25-26th, 2018 and Prince George July 30-August 1, 2018. If your are interested in taking either or both of these courses, please submit a training request ASAP as we will need to have a minimum number of members sign up in order to hold the course. Annual Hearing Tests for Members

Mobile Hearing Testing Unit from Audio Labs will be at our Hall to provide hearing tests for our members.  Tuesday May 8th in Kamloops from 3:30pm till 5:30pm The hearing tests are completely free to our members. Annual Hearing Tests for Members

Great news!  We have now gained access to several more service providers for members to use to take their Annual Hearing Tests that are now required for dispatch. Recognizing that many of our members live were it is not continent or practical to travel to Terrace, Prince George or Kamloops for testing we are working on getting testing brought to other locations that are more convenient.  We will also look at bringing the testing trucks to job sites as the work when needed. Low Voltage course in Prince George at Center of Excellence

Low Voltage (Prince George) Local 993 Sat Jan 20, 2018 to Sun Jan 21, 2018 0830 Minimum 10 Members Maximum 20 Members Prince George Center Of Excellence (Prince George) The Low Voltage course is one day, 8am to 430pm. The max course load is 10 people. Some of the topics included – overview of premise cabling – Jargon/ terminology – A look at the different networks and applications – Using copper cabling – Wireless networks – Design and installation considerations of the cabling systems. – A practical aspect will also be included, incorporating the termination of various cabling styles Required Items: Tape Measure, Pen and Paper Location: Prince George Center Of Excellence

Frontline Leadership Level 2 (Prince Rupert Sat Dec 2, 2017 0830 at PrestigeHotel)

The Level 2 Foremen training will combine the necessary soft skills required by IBEW foremen as well as look at some of the more important technical processes and necessary administration skills that all IBEW foremen to need to know to ensure a safe and productive worksite. Some of the key training topics will involve: Professionalism and the role of the Foreman; IBEW Chain of Command; Progressive discipline: A valuable tool for ongoing success and safety in the workplace; Working with your Shop Steward to create a safe and productive workplace; Communicating for success, not for failure. Conduit Bending Level 2

We have scheduled a Conduit Bending L1 & L2 Course for Sept 30 & Oct 1, 2017 at 8:30 am. Training will be held at the Kamloops Hall on 873 Desmond Street. This course is recommended for any member wanting to work in the United States.   As per our BM Glen Hilton, apprentices living in the area that are on the out of work list and not in school are expected to register and attend these courses.   Members are required to bring a hacksaw, tape measure, pen, paper, wear appropriate safety gear such as glasses and steel toed boots. If you are interested in participating in these courses please confirm your attendance by registering through the Western Jets website.
