Course Title: Level 3 – Rigid Steel Conduit Bending and Threading

Course Description:

This hands-on course provides students with practical training in bending and threading rigid steel conduit used in electrical installations. Learners will set up, operate, and maintain a variety of industry-standard bending and threading equipment, including the Chicago bender, hand bender, Greenlee 555 electric bender, and Greenlee hydraulic bender.

Students will also gain experience using both DeWalt electric threaders with tripod stands and Ridgid 300 threading machines, including changing dies, performing maintenance, and ensuring safe and efficient operation.

Through extensive practice, participants will learn to accurately bend 90s, offsets, kicks, and custom conduit configurations while maintaining conduit integrity and meeting electrical code requirements. The course will also cover design and layout considerations when planning conduit runs with rigid steel, emphasizing precision, safety, and efficiency.

By the end of the course, students will be able to confidently bend and thread rigid conduit using multiple tools and methods, troubleshoot common issues, and apply best practices for durable, code-compliant installations.

I got my start in the Electrical trade in 1999, working as an apprentice for Canem Systems and Western Electrical in Calgary, engaging in all aspects of commercial and residential electrical work.  I finished apprenticeship schooling in 2005, graduating with my Red Seal. I was hired at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) in 2006 to instruct electrical apprentices. I remained a faculty member until 2014, when my family and I decided to relocate to Vancouver Island.

Once I had settled in the Comox Valley region, I started a successful electrical company specializing in new home construction, service upgrades, service calls and some light commercial work.

With WJETS I teach Code Update Courses, Conduit Bending (levels 1-3) Fire Alarm, Fiber Optic and also hold contracts for Academic Support. In addition, I am an electrical instructor at North Island college, Campbell River Campus.
